Metabolic Determinants of Mtb Virulence, Vulnerability, andVariation (Myco3v)

Mycobacterium Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis (TB) is caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), whose unique outer envelope forms a physical barrier with the infected patient.

The TBRU Myco3v group of scientists aim to identify molecules in the Mtb envelope that promote antibiotic entry and molecules that reduce Mtb survival to pave the way for the development of more effective antibiotics.

Further, to limit the worldwide spread of TB, TBRU Myco3V aims to develop rapid diagnostic tests based on chemicals detected in blood, urine, and exhaled breath from TB patients.
